Alas!
syonakeleste:
But is fate founded upon our origins?

Perhaps it is time ::slight, cryptic smile:: to begin a discussion of childhood.

Soujirou

*Soujirou smiles. His smile fades for a moment, as his right hand closes slightly on something intangible. (Something which might perhaps be an imagined sword hilt.) Then he smiles very cheerfully.*

I'm sure that most of the people here *waves hand dismissively* had some sort of traumatic childhood, but I can tell you that mine was normal. Sure it was :extremely: boring, but...

Tsuzuki

(Never Forget)
*He's obviously been expecting this topic for a while now. He slumps a bit in his chair, toys with his watchband, eyes downcast.*

What's the point of discussing it? Like Riku said- probably most of us had rotten childhoods. I did. Just about everyone I know did. So what? Is sitting around playing 'my life is worse than your life' really supposed to help anything?

...Oh. And King Enma is the ruler of Hell.

Tsuzuki-san is right. *with a faint twinge of abruptness* What's passed is past; there's no point in rehashing such trivial things.

So you decided to go around making other people's childhoods just as bad as yours?

*gives Hisoka a cool look* Don't blame me for your life, boy. As much as I'm sure you like to think that I am the sole source of all trouble in the world, I'm afraid I don't have that much time to control *everything* that happens.

He killed me. When I was thirteen. I'm a shinigami. He's a homicidal lunatic.

Any other questions?

*To Muraki, increasingly upset* How can you be so blase? How can you openly admit to being a murderer and smile about it? And a doctor- a doctor takes a sacred oath to do no harm. You don't deserve the title if you don't respect that vow!

*smiles* But why are you so upset about killing, Vash-san? Everyone has to kill to stay alive, both humans and animals. They kill and eat other living things to survive, and if they're too weak then they die.

You cannot seriously be equating eating a hamburger with killing a human being. You just can't be. Because that is the worst piece of logic I've ever heard, and I refuse to believe you're really that dumb.

*mildly confused* Humans kill the people who try to kill them . . . So that's survival. Right? And animals in nature do that too. And in nature, the stronger animals eat the weaker ones. Just like people who are stronger make other people obey them, or they kill them, or whatever they want to. The weak become food for the strong. *smiles*

*continues smirking at Vash* It's quite simple, really. I made myself stop caring. All those emotions, all those feelings - I rid myself of them, and I have never looked back since. It's amazing what one can accomplish when one doesn't allow oneself to be bogged down by such useless baggage. That secret is what I wish to share with my beloved. So much potential...

*his smile now has a poisonous edge to it, and something steely flashes in his visible eye* You, who are ostensibly in this room because you share darkness like the rest of us, who are you to cast judgement on me as to my choice of professions? Have you ever literally held a person's life in your very hands? Have you ever watched that life slip away, ever *felt* it, despite your skilled attempts to defeat the thief stealing it? Death mocks doctors even as it torments them, you see, so it truly is quite an irony that the phrase 'do no harm' is part of the physician's lexicon when such a one-sided give-and-take relationship exists. And if I had my way, it would soon not.

*to Soujirou, looking pleased by his comments* Quite right. Survival of the fittest...

Yes. Yes, Muraki, I have. I've held people- people I loved, as well as strangers- as they bled out between my fingers. I've felt life slipping away fast, via a bullet, and I've felt it go slow, when time catches up. That's one of the main problems with functional immortality, you know- you get a real education in watching people die. *Bitter chuckle.* Now I'm no doctor, but it's hardly the exclusive privilege of doctors to feel helpless in the face of death.

*to Vash, surprisingly without rancor* Isn't it? Doctors are supposed to know all the intimate secrets of the mortal body, how it works, how it maintains itself. And yet for all that knowledge and expertise, there still remains elusive the mastery of death. Or life, I suppose, actually - I've mastered the art of death rather well. *dark chuckle*

*catches Hisoka staring at him and returns it with a cool look of his own* Yes? Do you have something to share, boy?

*straight-forwardly*

You haven't gotten rid of your emotions. You're still so furious about what happened back then that I can barely be in the same room with you.

I thought it was because I hate you that I feel this angry around you. But it's not just that. It's your anger, too.

*snorts* Thanks a lot.

[OOC-- let me know if I'm reading your Muraki wrong, but from the way you wrote him in his introduction, I figured it was a pretty safe bet.]

Doctors? Scientists and doctors play with things they do not understand. No matter how hard they try, they will not become gods. Though perhaps they may make them.

*raises a brow, remembering that Hisoka is an empath, and assumes a look of complete calm* 'Back then'? True, I'm disappointed that Tsuzuki-san and I weren't able to consummate our union as I had planned. But I'm hardly furious over it. *chuckles* Merely a setback. *gaze softens a bit as he glances briefly at Tsuzuki and then resumes cool control when he looks back to Hisoka*

Given the recent upsets in this room, it's hardly a surprise that you'd be assimilating all their feelings. But I understand that it's more convenient for you to blame everything on me. *shrugs, as if to say he doesn't care one way or another*

*sees Hatori coming at him and stands, prepared to defend himself against a blow* May I ask why you feel compelled to visit undeserved violence upon me?

[OOC - You're reading him right, heh heh. :D Poor crazy insane doctor-denial, lol]
